… MISTRESS OF ROME by Kate Quinn. This brilliant debut from 2010 focuses on the life and struggles of a slave girl, Thea. Set in ancient Rome, this superb story is a real page-turner, that drew me into the adventure and kept me hooked to find out what was going to happen. It’s a real triumph, creating fictitious characters, surrounded by an ensemble from the history books and woven into a compelling tale that takes you back in time to treachery, the plotting and the brutality of an amazing period of history. I am heading to the library to pick up book two immediately.
